Essential functions and responsibilities: 

  • UML: Create UML diagrams (class diagrams, sequence diagrams, activity diagrams, etc.) to visually represent system architecture, component interactions, and workflows, facilitating better understanding of system design.
  • Data Modeling: Create and interpret Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), which are visual representations of how different entities (tables) in a database are related to each other, allowing them to effectively design and understand complex database structures. Design detailed ERDs to capture the logical data model of a database, including cardinality and constraints.
  • Data Collection and Integration: Extract development data from various sources like code repositories, project management systems, bug tracking tools, and build automated data pipelines to ensure consistent data flow.
  • Data Cleaning and Preprocessing: Identify and address data quality issues, including missing values, inconsistencies, and outliers, to prepare data for analysis.
  • Data Analysis and Insights: Analyze development data using statistical methods to identify trends, patterns, and key performance indicators (KPIs) related to development velocity, code quality, defect density, and project timelines.
  • Performance Metrics: Monitor and report on development metrics like code coverage, cyclomatic complexity, and code churn to pinpoint areas for improvement.
  • Reporting and Visualization: Create clear and concise data visualizations (dashboards, reports, graphs) using data visualization tools to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

  • DB Skills: Must have understanding of technologies consisting of but not limited to MariaDB/MySQL, NoSQL, PostgreSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra etc…).
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools (SQL, Python, R), data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI), and UML modeling software.
  • Software Development Understanding: Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall), common development tools, and code repositories.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical thinking, ability to identify patterns and trends in complex data sets.
